Scholarship Program

In addition to fully supporting the Society’s scholarship program for the children of Medal of Honor recipients, the Foundation, working with its partner, the Armed Forces Communications-Electronics Association Education Foundation, will award eight scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year to students enrolled in Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps ROTC programs.

The Foundation will also award a scholarship to a student studying to become a teacher in science, technology, engineering and math subjects. Included in this STEM scholarship are a $5,000 scholarship and three annual $1,000 stipends for teaching supplies once the student begins teaching.

Army. Cadet David Nickle. Junior at Embry-Riddle University at Prescott, AZ. Major: Global Security and Intelligence. Cadet of the Month/Semester. Rockwell Award. Outstanding Student Award. Studying Chinese. Color Guard. Eagle Scout. Church Elder. Goal to serve as a Military Intelligence Officer.
Air Force. Cadet Edgar Acosta. Junior at Pennsylvania State University. Major: Mathematics. Distinguished Graduate and Top Gun. Honor Guard, captain of Drill Team. Captain of intramural soccer team. Goal to serve as a communications officer in the Air Force.

Marine Corps. Officer Candidate Michael Black. Junior at Drexel University with ROTC at the University of Pennsylvania. Major: Electrical Engineering. Active duty staff sergeant in commissioning program. Top 3 performer in Electrical Engineering class. Goal to be accepted in the nuclear power community.

Air Force. Cadet Michael Crowl. Junior at the University of Idaho with ROTC at Washington State University. Major: Computer Engineering. #1 cadet in flight training program. Honor cadet of the semester. Arnold Air Society. Chemistry Club. Vice commander of marching band. Goal: Air Force Information Security Officer.
Navy. Midshipman Paige Nardozzo. Sophomore at Virginia Military Institute. Major: Mechanical Engineering. Competitively selected as VMI cadet corporal. Triathalon Club. Equestrian Club. Engineers without Borders. Goal to serve as a submarine warfare officer.

The Marine Corps scholarship was presented to Midshipman David Cox at the Iowa State University by Medal of Honor recipient Roger Donlon. Army Cadet Victoria Migdal at Harvard receives her scholarship and a $5,000 check from Medal of Honor recipient Tom Hudner. Following is a short summary of the credentials of the four scholarship recipients who receive the scholarships this Fall from a Medal of Honor recipient at one of their unit leadership laboratories.

Air Force. Cadet Alexander Young. A junior at North Carolina State. Major: Aerospace Engineering. Dean’s List 5 times. #1 junior cadet. #1 junior at NCS of 5,680 students. Eagle Scout. Numerous awards from various organizations. Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Gold Key International Honor Society, Wolfpack Booster Club president, Silver Wings, Spanish Club and others. Career goal: Air Force pilot or engineer and ultimately an astronaut.

Marine Corps. Midshipman David Cox. A junior at Iowa State University. Major: History and Political Science. #1 in NROTC class. Dean’s List: 5 semesters. Political Science Outstanding Student. Awards from American Legion, USS Little Rock, Right Stuff Award, ROTC Military Excellence. Battalion Sergeant Major. Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, President, Drill Team and Semper Fi Society. John Paul Jones Society. Intramural football and softball teams. Career goal: Marine Corps platoon commander or intelligence officer and Foreign Area officer.

Army. Cadet Victoria Migdal. A junior at Harvard University (ROTC at Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Major: Neurobiology. Top cadet in the battalion in scholarship, leadership and athletic performance. Selected as battalion commander in senior year. President of Harvard ROTC Association. Numerous awards from U.S. Army, American Legion and others. Community work with Harvard Kennedy School and Red Cross. Member of Harvard Shooting Team. Career goal: become an Army medical corps physician.
